Hannacroix Creek Falls is a layered, mossy waterfall tucked inside Hannacroix Ravine Preserve, where the creek spills over tiered rock ledges into a narrow gorge framed by dense forest. The falls photograph best from the creek bed itself, so expect to get your feet wet stepping across rocks to find the ideal frontal composition. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for capturing the full height of the drop along with the surrounding hemlock canopy. Overcast days are ideal here since the deep ravine already limits direct light, and cloud cover eliminates harsh shadows and blown highlights on the white water. A polarizing filter helps cut glare on wet rocks and brings out the rich greens of the moss. The trail from the parking area is straightforward but involves some uneven terrain, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Peak color in mid-October adds strong foreground interest to frame the falls.
