The spectacular sea arch at High Stacks, cut into the Upper Cretaceous Chalk (deposited 70-90 million years ago) at Flamborough Head, as seen from the coastal path. The almost pure limestone was laid down in a warm, sub-tropical sea and contains fossilized remains of bivalves, echinoids and brachiopods. The Chalk in this area is much harder than the Chalk of southern Britain. These stacks have been nicknamed Drinking Dinosaur.
