Honopu Arch
Honopu Arch is a towering 90-foot natural rock arch carved into the dramatic sea cliffs of the Nā Pali Coast, accessible only by ocean, making it one of the most remote and visually striking subjects in Hawaii. The arch frames a secluded beach and lush green valley behind it, giving you layered compositions that combine geological drama with tropical color. Since landing on Honopu Beach requires a permit and a swim from a kayak or zodiac, most photographers shoot from the water, positioning their boat to capture the full span of the arch against the ridgeline above. A wide angle lens works well to take in the scale, while a telephoto lets you isolate the arch from further out on the water. Morning light is ideal, hitting the cliffs before harsh midday shadows fall into the crevices. Calm summer swells between May and September offer the safest and clearest shooting conditions.
