Polihale State Park sits at the far northwestern end of Kauai, where the Na Pali Coast's dramatic cliffs meet one of Hawaii's longest and most remote stretches of beach. The scale here is hard to match, with towering sea cliffs to the north, vast dunes behind you, and an expansive sandy shoreline that curves into the distance. Shoot from the waterline looking north to compress the cliffs against the beach, or climb the dunes for an elevated perspective that shows the full sweep of coastline. Sunset is exceptional here, as the cliffs catch warm golden and orange light while the open ocean reflects the sky. Getting here requires driving several miles of rough dirt road that can be impassable after rain, so check conditions beforehand and consider a high-clearance vehicle. A wide-angle lens handles the scale well, though a short telephoto lets you isolate the cliff faces. (Kekaha, Kauai, Hawaii, United States)
