Hvítserkur is a dramatic 15-meter basalt sea stack rising from the tidal flats of the Vatnsnes peninsula, its twin arched openings giving it the silhouette of a crouching dragon or elephant drinking from the sea. At low tide you can walk out across the wet sand and get close to the rock, shooting upward to emphasize its scale, or position yourself further back to include reflections in the shallow water pooling around its base. The classic wide-angle composition frames the stack against the sky, and a 16-35mm lens works well here. Golden hour light, especially during Iceland's extended summer dusk or dawn, rakes warm color across the basalt and the surrounding beach. Winter visits offer potential aurora backdrops. The viewpoint has a small car park above the beach with a staircase leading down; check tide times before visiting to maximize reflection opportunities on the sand flats. (Vatnsnes, Westfjords, Iceland)
