About International Rose Test Garden
International Rose Test Garden is the oldest official continuously operated public rose test garden in the United States and features more than 10,000 roses. It started as a safe haven for hybrid roses grown in Europe during World War I. Flowers began arriving in Portland in 1918 and the garden has continued to expand their collection every year since. The grounds are separated into a series of smaller gardens, including the Royal Rosarian Garden, the Shakespeare Garden and the Miniature Rose Garden, each with its own character. May through September is prime time for blooms, but the garden is photogenic all year round with its amazing city views. Early mornings are the perfect time to plan your photography adventure around. You'll get soft light, fewer people and dewy petals. The garden is open every day and admission is free, plus when you're done with the roses, head just uphill to the Portland Japanese Garden for even more photogenic greenery. (Portland, Oregon, USA)
