Inuksuk Gardens
Tucked just east of the Peggys Cove parking area along a short coastal trail, this informal collection of visitor-built inukshuks has grown into a dense, layered field of stacked granite figures set against the rugged Atlantic shoreline. The sculptures vary wildly in size and form, giving you endless foreground interest to work with. Get low to isolate individual inukshuks against the sky or ocean horizon, or step back to capture the full field as a mass of shapes receding into the background. A wide-angle lens lets you emphasize scale and depth, while a short telephoto compresses the cluster into something more graphic. Overcast days are ideal here since diffused light eliminates harsh shadows between the stones and keeps the grey granite tones even. Golden hour adds warm contrast and long shadows that define the texture beautifully. The trail is easy to walk and the area rewards slow exploration. (Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada)
