This understated memorial stands on a rocky Atlantic headland near Peggy's Cove, commemorating the 229 lives lost when Swissair Flight 111 went down offshore in 1998. The site features a curved stone wall and bronze elements set against a rugged Nova Scotia coastline, giving you a powerful combination of somber human-made structure and raw natural scenery. Shoot from low angles to bring the memorial into the foreground with the open ocean stretching behind it, or step back to show the weathered rocks and sea in context. Overcast days work beautifully here, as soft diffused light suits the reflective mood of the place and eliminates harsh shadows on the stonework. A wide angle lens helps capture the relationship between the monument and the vast water behind it. The site is accessible by a short walk from a small parking area off Highway 333.
