Iona Beach Regional Park

Iona Beach Regional Park - Photo by whereitsb1 / 1

Iona Beach Regional Park sits on a narrow spit of land at the mouth of the Fraser River, offering wide open skies, driftwood-covered shores, and unobstructed views across the Strait of Georgia toward the North Shore mountains. The long jetty acts as a natural leading line, drawing the eye toward the open water, and the scattered logs at the far end give you strong foreground interest to anchor landscape compositions. You can also turn back toward Vancouver for city-meets-nature shots, especially when the mountains are snow-capped. Golden hour light is exceptional here, with little obstruction to the west for sunset and soft diffused tones over the water in the morning. Bring a wide angle lens to capture the expansive sky and shore together, and wear waterproof footwear since the sandy trail can be wet. The walk to the end of the spit takes about 30 minutes, so plan extra time. (Richmond, British Columbia, Canada)
