Wreck Beach
Wreck Beach sits at the base of a steep forested bluff at the edge of UBC's Point Grey peninsula, where the Fraser River estuary meets the Strait of Georgia, giving you expansive westward views toward Vancouver Island and the Olympic Mountains beyond. The beach is lined with massive driftwood logs that make for strong foreground elements, and you can use them to frame the water and distant peaks in the background. Sunset is the standout time to shoot here, with the sun dropping directly over the water and painting the sky in deep oranges and pinks. Getting here requires descending more than 400 steps from the clifftop, so pack light and wear comfortable shoes. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the logs and sky together. Keep in mind this is a clothing optional beach, so be respectful and mindful of other beachgoers as you work. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
