The Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC houses one of Canada's most visually striking natural history displays, anchored by a massive 26-meter blue whale skeleton suspended from the ceiling of its main atrium. That skeleton is your primary subject, and the challenge is finding the right angle to convey its scale; try shooting from low and wide near the entrance to get the full length, or move to the sides to isolate sections with cleaner backgrounds. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for the full skeleton, while a longer focal length lets you pick out jaw details or rib structures. The interior lighting is consistent and diffused, making it a reliable shoot regardless of time of day or weather outside. Arrive early when the museum opens to avoid crowds blocking your compositions, and check for reflections in the glass displays when shooting smaller specimens in the surrounding cases.
