Keys View
Keys View sits at 5,185 feet in Joshua Tree National Park, offering one of the most sweeping panoramas in Southern California, with the entire Coachella Valley stretching out below, the San Andreas Fault visible as a distinct line across the valley floor, and the Salton Sea glinting in the distance on clear days. A wide-angle lens works well here for capturing the full sweep of the valley alongside the Santa Rosa Mountains, but a telephoto lets you compress distant layers of ridgelines for dramatic effect. Sunrise brings soft pink light washing over the valley before the haze builds, and late afternoon on clear winter days often delivers the sharpest visibility all the way to Palm Springs. The paved parking area leads to a short, accessible walkway with a railing overlook; step to the sides of the main platform for less crowded compositions and better foreground options.
