Wall Street Mill
Wall Street Mill is a well-preserved gold ore processing site deep in Joshua Tree National Park, where rusting machinery, weathered timber structures, and crumbling adobe walls make for compelling desert decay photography. The two-stamp mill itself is the centerpiece, and you can get strong detail shots of the corroded metal gears and mechanisms using a macro or short telephoto lens, or pull back wide to include the surrounding Joshua trees and boulder piles for environmental context. A 24-70mm covers most situations well here. Early morning light rakes across the textured surfaces beautifully, bringing out rust tones and casting dramatic shadows through the open framework of the structures. The site sits at the end of a roughly two-mile round-trip flat trail from the Astwood Trailhead, making it accessible to most photographers. Visit on weekdays to avoid crowds and take your time exploring the bunkhouse and well, which offer quieter compositional opportunities beyond the main mill.
