Built in 1922, this Mission/Spanish Revival federal building is one of Honolulu's most striking pieces of historic architecture, with its warm stucco facade, red clay tile roof, arched colonnades, and ornate detailing that stands out sharply against the modern city around it. Shoot from across the street to capture the full symmetry of the front facade, or move in close to isolate the arched entries and decorative stonework. The colonnaded walkway along the exterior makes a strong framing element and natural leading line. Morning light works best here, hitting the front facade with warm, directional tones before the sun climbs too high and flattens the texture of the stucco. A wide angle lens handles the full building well, while a standard prime lets you pull out architectural details. Street parking is available nearby and foot traffic is manageable on weekday mornings. (Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, United States)
