Kjeragbolten is a glacially deposited boulder wedged into a narrow crevasse on the edge of Kjerag mountain, suspended above a sheer 984-metre drop into the Lysefjord below. The shot everyone comes for is a person standing on the boulder with the fjord and surrounding peaks filling the background, and for that you want a wide to mid-range lens, around 24-50mm, with your subject centered and the void visible beneath them. Position yourself on the rock face directly opposite the crevasse and shoot at roughly eye level to emphasize the exposure. Midday light in summer works well here since the sun climbs high enough to illuminate both the subject and the fjord. The hike takes around four to six hours round trip from the Øygardsstølen trailhead and requires solid footwear; the boulder itself has a short queue on busy days, so arriving early gives you cleaner shots with fewer people waiting in frame.
