Lago di Pian Palù
Lago di Pian Palù is a high-altitude reservoir in the Stelvio National Park, sitting at around 1800 meters and backed by dramatic alpine peaks that reflect cleanly in the water on calm mornings. The lake's shoreline offers several strong compositions, from wide establishing shots with the mountains as a backdrop to tighter frames using the rocky edges and sparse alpine vegetation as foreground interest. The wooden cross perched on a boulder near the road makes for a compelling focal point, especially when shot against the sky or with the lake visible behind it. Early morning gives you the best chance at still water and soft light before the wind picks up. A wide angle lens suits the expansive scenery well, though a short telephoto helps compress the peaks behind the lake. The access road is manageable and you can park nearby without a long approach.
