Low Point Lighthouse

Perched on a rocky headland along Cape Breton's rugged Atlantic coastline, Low Point Lighthouse is a clean white concrete tower with a rare circular iron lantern that gives it a distinctly classic profile. The lighthouse photographs beautifully from the shoreline below, where you can frame it against dramatic skies with the rocky coast and open ocean in the foreground. Wide to standard focal lengths work well here, around 24-50mm, letting you include both the tower and the textured shoreline in a single composition. Golden hour light in the late afternoon and evening wraps the white tower in warm tones and casts long shadows across the rocks. The site is relatively accessible with open ground around the lighthouse, giving you freedom to circle it and find your angle. Overcast days soften the contrast and bring out the deep blues and greens of the surrounding water. (Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada)
