Lummis House
Built by hand from arroyo stone between 1898 and 1910, this rugged craftsman cottage sits along the edge of the Arroyo Seco and offers a surprisingly photogenic mix of rough-hewn texture, dense garden foliage, and historic character rarely found this close to central Los Angeles. The irregular stonework on the exterior walls catches light beautifully in the golden hours, with late afternoon sun warming the facade and creating strong shadow detail across the surface. Shoot from the garden paths to frame the house through overhanging trees and native plantings, or get close with a wide angle lens to emphasize the massive stone blocks and handmade wooden elements. The enclosed courtyard and tower add architectural variety worth exploring. Weekday visits are quieter and give you more freedom to move around without crowds. A 24-70mm lens covers most angles well here. (Los Angeles, California, United States)
