The Maman sculpture in Ottawa sits just outside the National Gallery of Canada and is hard to miss, with its large spider form towering over the plaza. It is a great subject for playing with scale and perspective, whether you shoot from directly underneath to emphasize the height or step back to frame it against the gallery’s glass and stone architecture. The open space around it gives you room to experiment with angles, and the contrast between the sculpture and the clean lines of the building works well in photos. Light changes the feel quite a bit here, with softer light in the morning or evening helping bring out detail, while overcast conditions can give the scene a more muted, even look. It is right near downtown and easy to access on foot, making it a quick and worthwhile stop. (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
