Metropolitan United Church
Metropolitan United Church is a striking neo-Gothic landmark on Queen Street East in downtown Toronto, with soaring stone towers, intricate facade detailing, and large stained glass windows that reward close inspection. From the street, a wide-angle or 24mm lens lets you capture the full height of the towers while incorporating the surrounding urban context; stepping back across Queen Street gives you a cleaner full-facade composition. Inside, the vaulted nave and warm light filtering through the stained glass make for compelling interior shots, especially on sunny mornings when the colored light falls across the pews. Overcast days soften harsh shadows on the exterior stonework and bring out the texture in the carved details. The church is open to visitors outside of services, so check the schedule before you arrive. A tilt-shift or perspective-correction lens is useful here if you want to keep the verticals straight.
