About Mill Colonnade (Mlýnská kolonáda)
Mlýnská kolonáda runs along the Teplá river through the spa quarter of Karlovy Vary, in western Czechia. It was finished in 1881 and features 124 Corinthian columns, five hot mineral springs and a bandstand. The columns are just begging to be photographed. Standing at one end, lets you shoot straight down the row so they stack away from you. Make sure to plan your shooting adventure around going early. The promenade fills up with both tourists and spa visitors throughout the day. Twelve statues stand along the roof line, one for each month, and they work well to breakup the endless feeling line of the roof. The upper terrace looks out over the old city centre. Cold mornings put steam over the spring taps. Light under the roof stays even, which helps with the stonework and the panelled ceiling. Walking through costs nothing and the colonnade is open to the street. It sits in the middle of the pedestrian spa district with plenty else close by.
