Montgomery St View
This hillside vantage point on Telegraph Hill gives you a dramatic elevated look down Montgomery Street as it cuts through the heart of San Francisco, with the Transamerica Pyramid rising prominently in the middle distance and the dense urban grid stretching out below. Position yourself on the steps or sidewalk at the crest of the hill and shoot with a moderate telephoto, something in the 70 to 135mm range, to compress the scene and pull the pyramid closer against the layered cityscape behind it. The street itself becomes a natural leading line drawing the eye straight into the frame. Blue hour is the sweet spot here, when the sky holds a deep blue tone and the city lights are fully illuminated but the scene retains detail throughout. Parking is limited on the surrounding residential streets, so arriving on foot from Filbert or Greenwich Steps is the most practical approach. (San Francisco, California, United States)
