Morris Island Conservation Area
Morris Island Conservation Area offers 47 hectares of forested trails, rocky outcroppings, and calm Ottawa River shoreline that rewards patient landscape and nature photographers alike. The glassy water here is exceptional for reflections, so arrive early in the morning before any wind picks up and position yourself low at the water's edge to double the sky and treeline in your frame. Sunrise brings soft, warm light filtering through the trees and painting the river gold, making it the prime window to shoot. A wide angle lens works well for expansive riverscapes, while a telephoto lets you isolate wildlife and compress the forested islands in the distance. The 6km of trails give you multiple vantage points, so explore beyond the main entry area for quieter compositions. Parking requires a $6 vehicle fee, and the site is open year round.
