Mosher Marsh Preserve

Mosher Marsh Preserve offers a quiet, intimate wetland landscape where shallow ponds, a winding boardwalk, and open marsh grasses create rich layering opportunities for nature photographers. The 300-foot boardwalk puts you directly over the wetland, giving you low, close perspectives on reflections, aquatic plants, and wildlife without disturbing the habitat. Focus on the beaver lodge as a natural focal point, or use the boardwalk railing as a leading line into the marsh. The four shallow potholes attract wood ducks, making them a prime target with a longer telephoto lens, ideally 200mm or more. Early morning is your best window, when mist rises off the water, light is soft, and ducks are most active. Spring visits reward you with marsh marigolds and bloodroot in bloom. Wear waterproof footwear as conditions can be muddy near the trail edges, and arrive close to dawn for the calmest water and best reflections. (Amsterdam, New York, United States)
