Canajoharie Falls
Canajoharie Falls is a striking gorge waterfall tucked just outside the village, where Canajoharie Creek drops through a narrow slot of layered sedimentary rock into a deep, turquoise pool below. The overlook platform gives you a direct head-on view of the falls framed by the gorge walls, making it ideal for a wide or standard zoom in the 24-50mm range. For the cleanest shot of the water and pool color, aim for overcast days when the light is soft and even, eliminating harsh shadows in the gorge. Early morning on sunny days can work if the sun has not yet reached full intensity. The trail from Wintergreen Park is easy and well-maintained, roughly half a mile each way, so the location is accessible to most photographers. A polarizing filter is worth bringing to cut glare on the water and deepen the vivid green pool color. (Canajoharie, New York, United States)
