Mountain View Lake

Mountain View Lake - Photo by Terry Branham1 / 1

Mountain View Lake is a quiet, reflective lake in the Adirondacks, framed by dense forest that shifts dramatically with the seasons, from deep summer greens to vivid fall foliage. The glassy surface makes it an excellent spot for reflection shots, especially when winds are calm in the early morning. Position yourself along the shoreline to layer the water, treeline, and sky into a classic landscape composition, or get low to emphasize the mirror effect on the surface. A wide angle lens works well here to capture the full sweep of the surroundings, though a short telephoto can compress the forest and water into something more intimate. Overcast days soften the light and reduce glare on the water, but golden hour on a calm morning is hard to beat. Access is straightforward and the area stays relatively uncrowded.
