N Lake Shore Dr Bridge View
This stretch along North Lake Shore Drive offers one of Chicago's most compelling urban compositions, where the Chicago River channels directly toward a dense wall of downtown architecture. Standing on or near the bridge, you can shoot looking west along the river with skyscrapers rising on both sides, creating strong leading lines that draw the eye deep into the skyline. Early morning is ideal, when soft light hits the glass towers and the river surface reflects the buildings with minimal wind interference. The blue hour just before sunrise adds a moody, balanced exposure between the ambient sky and artificial building lights. A wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range captures the full canyon effect, though a short telephoto can compress the skyline nicely. The bridge is accessible on foot and gives you elevated sightlines above the riverwalk below. (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
