DuSable Bridge & Wrigley Building

DuSable Bridge & Wrigley Building - Photo by Vinicius Melo1 / 1

The DuSable Bridge spans the Chicago River at Michigan Avenue, framing one of the city's most iconic architectural pairings alongside the twin towers of the Wrigley Building. The bridge itself offers strong compositional elements, with its ornate lampposts, stone pylons, and the river cutting through the urban canyon below. Stand on the bridge to shoot the Wrigley Building head-on, or drop down to the Riverwalk level for a low angle that puts the bridge's arch and ironwork in the foreground against the skyline. The river acts as a natural leading line, drawing the eye toward the buildings. Blue hour and the hour after sunset work particularly well here, when the Wrigley Building's white terra cotta facade glows against a deep blue sky. A wide-angle lens between 16mm and 24mm handles the scale comfortably, and the Riverwalk is accessible year-round with plenty of positions to explore. (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
