Newhaven Lighthouse

Newhaven Lighthouse sits at the end of a stone pier jutting into the Firth of Forth, offering a compact but rewarding shoot with the small white tower as your anchor point and open water stretching behind it. The pier itself is your best compositional tool, use it as a leading line walking toward the lighthouse with a wide angle lens to draw the eye straight to the structure. Sunset is the prime time to visit, with warm light catching the white paintwork and the colourful LED illumination becoming visible as the sky darkens, giving you a good window to capture both natural and artificial light together. Rough weather adds drama, with waves breaking against the pier walls and moody skies behind the tower. The pier is accessible on foot from the harbour and is flat and straightforward to walk, though wet stones can be slippery after rain. (Newhaven, Edinburgh, Scotland)
