Ng Tung Chai is one of Hong Kong's most rewarding waterfall hikes, offering a series of four cascades tucked deep into the forested hills beneath Tai Mo Shan. The Main Fall is the tallest and most dramatic, dropping cleanly into a rocky pool surrounded by dense jungle canopy, while the Scatter Fall fans out across a wide rock face in a completely different character. For compositions, get low near the base of each fall and use a wide angle lens to emphasize height and the surrounding greenery. A slow shutter speed of one second or longer will give you silky water, so bring a tripod and a polarizing filter to cut glare and saturate the foliage. Overcast days are ideal since the diffused light prevents harsh shadows in the narrow gorge. The trail is well-marked but involves stream crossings and uneven terrain, so wear proper footwear. Allow two to three hours for the full loop. (Tai Mo Shan Country Park, Hong Kong)
