Niagara Courthouse
This neoclassical limestone courthouse sits at the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake's historic district, its symmetrical facade and columned portico making it one of the most architecturally refined buildings in Ontario. Shoot straight-on from across the street to emphasize the balanced geometry of the columns and pediment, or move to a low angle to let the portico dominate the foreground against the sky. The warm, cream-coloured stone responds beautifully to golden hour light, especially in the late afternoon when the sun rakes across the facade and brings out the texture of the masonry. Early morning works well too, with softer light and fewer tourists on the sidewalk. A 24-70mm lens gives you flexibility between full facade shots and tighter details like the cornice work and window surrounds. The surrounding streetscape of heritage buildings adds context if you pull back for a wider environmental shot. (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada)
