The Notre-Dame Basilica is one of the most photogenic interiors in North America, with a soaring Gothic Revival nave bathed in deep cobalt blue, gold leaf detailing, and richly colored stained glass that creates an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Inside, position yourself at the back of the nave and use a wide-angle lens, something in the 16-24mm range, to capture the full sweep of the vaulted ceiling and symmetrical rows of pews leading toward the altar. The light inside is relatively consistent throughout the day since it is artificially lit, but morning visits tend to be quieter, giving you cleaner shots without crowds. A tripod is ideal for the low-light interior, though confirm current rules before bringing one. The exterior on Place d'Armes photographs well in the late afternoon with warm light hitting the twin towers; try shooting from across the plaza to include the square in the foreground.
