Perched on the wooded slopes of the Collserola ridge at 415 metres, the Fabra Observatory is one of Barcelona's most atmospheric hilltop locations, combining a beautifully preserved early 20th century domed building with sweeping views across the city and coast below. The neoclassical white dome against a blue sky makes for strong architectural shots, and the terrace gives you a wide panoramic perspective stretching from Montjuïc to the sea. For architecture, a wide to standard zoom in the 24-70mm range works well; shoot close to the dome to emphasize its curves against the sky, or step back to include the surrounding pines for context. Golden hour and blue hour are particularly rewarding here, with city lights beginning to sparkle across the basin below as the sky shifts color. Access requires a drive or taxi up the Carretera de l'Observatori road, and parking is limited, so confirm visit availability through the observatory's website before making the trip.
