Perched above the caldera in Oia, this viewpoint gives you one of the most iconic panoramas in the Greek islands, looking out over the deep blue expanse of the caldera toward the volcanic islands and the endless Aegean horizon. The stacked white cubic houses cascading down the cliff face create natural layering in your compositions, and you can use the domed churches and windmills as foreground anchors against the sweeping backdrop. Sunset is the prime time to shoot here, when the light turns the whitewashed walls amber and pink, but arrive at least an hour early to secure your position since crowds gather quickly. A mid-range zoom in the 24-70mm range handles the wide establishing shots and tighter details equally well. For a quieter experience with softer, more directional light, sunrise is worth the early wake-up and you will often have the view nearly to yourself. (Oia, Santorini, Greece)
