Old No. 7 Firehouse
This beautifully preserved Victorian-era firehouse on Notre-Dame Street East is one of Montreal's most striking pieces of heritage architecture, with its ornate red brick facade, arched doorways, and decorative stonework demanding close attention. Shoot straight on from across the street to capture the symmetry of the facade, or work at a slight angle to bring depth to the arched bays and layered details. The building photographs well in overcast conditions, which keep the red brick rich and saturated without harsh shadows cutting across the ornamental features. Golden hour light from the east in the morning can add warmth and dimension to the facade. A 35mm to 85mm lens covers most compositions well, from full building shots to tight detail work on the stonework and signage. Street parking and sidewalk space give you room to frame without obstruction. (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
