Old South Fremantle Power Station

The Old South Fremantle Power Station sits empty, slowly falling into disrepair looking out over the cove. The power plant was originally built in the 1940 and remained in use until the mid-1980s. It has a unique Art Deco design with glazing that once ran most of the way up the walls. A beach runs along the western side, and gives you a lots of space to capture this imposing building. Late in the day the sun drops behind you over the water and lights the whole west wall. Every window is gone now, so the openings read black against the concrete. Graffiti covers the lower levels and changes constantly. Synergy still owns the building and it's fenced off with security on site, plus the building is not in a safe condition to enter. Make sure to stay on the beach or the coastal path runing north to South Beach and south to Port Coogee. Aim to come around sunset to add the amazing colours to contrast with this imposing structure.
