Palace of Fine Arts
The Palace of Fine Arts is a stunning rotunda and colonnade complex reflected in a calm lagoon, making it one of San Francisco's most photogenic landmarks. The reflection shot is the obvious starting point, best captured from the far side of the lagoon where you can frame the rotunda with its weeping urns and ornate columns mirrored in the still water below. Early morning gives you the softest light, the fewest people, and the best chance of glassy reflections before wind picks up. Golden hour in the late afternoon wraps the warm terracotta tones of the structure in rich light that really brings out the detail. A 24-70mm zoom gives you flexibility to go wide for the full colonnade or tighter on architectural details. You can walk around the full perimeter of the lagoon to find different compositions, and the surrounding eucalyptus trees add natural framing options.
