Peyto Lake
Located within Banff National Park, Peyto Lake is renowned for its vivid turquoise blue waters, a result of rock flour (glacial silt) that refracts light. This glacial lake, surrounded by three high peaks, offers an iconic view of the Canadian Rockies. Each season delivers a unique scene: the glowing turquoise water in the summer, the astonishing contrast of white snow and deep blue water in the winter, or the colourful larch trees in the fall. Photographers will love the panoramic views, especially in the early morning or late evening when the light is most dramatic. (Hint - if you use the side trail off to the left you can avoid the platform with all tourists, giving you a better view.) (Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada)
