About Pfaffenthal's Lift

The Pfaffenthal Panoramic Elevator (Pfaffenthal's Lift) is an amazing gem where a glass cabin carries you down the cliff from Pescatore Park to the Alzette River. At the top, a enclosed footbridge stretches out from the park to a glass viewing platform with a small panel of glass floor. Below you, the rooftops fill the valley floor along the Alzette River with old fortification walls dotting on the slopes in front of you. Across the gap, the red steel of the Grand Duchess Charlotte Bridge spans the valley toward the towers of Kirchberg. From the viewing platform, a medium telephoto highlights the Red Bridge against the rich greens of the valley, while a wide lens aimed down through the glass floor captures the drop down to the street. You'll have to experiment with pressing the lens hood flat to the glass walls to try and kill all the reflections, especially after dark. Cloudy days suit the deep green slopes, and blue hour adds all the city lights to your compositionsw. The top entrance is in Pescatore Park and the bottom opens onto the streets of Pfaffenthal. The viewing platform and elevator ride is free. Make sure to factor in some extra time to wander the streets of Pfaffenthal and the river at the bottom before riding back up for a second look.
