Milan's Porta Nuova district is built around Piazza Gae Aulenti, a raised circular deck with soaring glass towers standing all the way round it. The UniCredit Tower is the biggest one, 231 metres to the tip of its spiral spire making it the tallest building in Italy. You are looking almost straight up from the moment you arrive here. Pointing your camera at the sky from almost anywhere in this unique Piazza will give you a fun composition to work with. Three circular openings are cut into the deck leaving huge openings to the levels below. From underneath you can shoot up through one and set a tower inside the ring. Bosco Verticale, the pair of plant covered residential towers, is a couple of minutes north. Torre Pirelli and Torre Galfa sit on the skyline from up here too. This is also an amazing spot to experiment with street photography since the area is almost always bustling with people. The deck fills through the day, so there is always movement against all that glass. Night changes the Piazza completely. Office windows light up, the fountains light up in colours, and blue hour holds the sky and the glass together. Access is free at any hour, with Porta Garibaldi station and metro lines M2 and M5 right underneath. (Milan, Lombardy, Italy)
