Pools at 'Ohe'o
Pools at 'Ohe'o, also known as the Seven Sacred Pools, cascade down Ohe'o Gulch within Haleakala National Park, where a series of tiered basalt pools and waterfalls tumble toward the Pacific Ocean. The contrast between the dark volcanic rock, rushing white water, and lush tropical green makes nearly every angle compelling. Shoot from the lower bridge for a classic wide composition that captures multiple pools in a single frame, or work your way up the trail to find tighter waterfall shots framed by overhanging foliage. Overcast days are ideal since they soften harsh shadows and bring out the deep greens and textures in the rock. A wide angle lens handles the sweeping gulch views well, while a mid-range zoom lets you isolate individual cascades.
