Radio City Music Hall
The Art Deco facade of this Midtown landmark gives you one of the most recognizable marquee signs in the world, and the neon glow makes it especially rewarding to shoot after dark. Position yourself on the sidewalk across 50th Street or step back toward the corner of Sixth Avenue to capture the full sweep of the curved canopy and vertical signage. A wide angle lens works well for including the surrounding streetscape and the energy of passing traffic, while a longer focal length lets you isolate the lettering and architectural details. Blue hour is the sweet spot, when the deep sky balances the warm neon without losing shadow detail. Weekday evenings tend to have slightly less foot traffic than weekends if you want cleaner foreground space. The surrounding Rockefeller Center buildings add strong vertical lines that complement the marquee nicely. (New York City, New York, United States)
