Reykjafoss is a compact but striking waterfall in northern Iceland, where the Húseyjarkvísl River drops around 20 meters into a rugged canyon framed by volcanic rock and open highland scenery. What makes it especially photogenic is the combination of the falls, the surrounding meadows, and the mountain backdrop, all within a single frame. A wide angle lens works well here to capture the full context of the landscape, while a longer exposure will smooth out the rushing water and bring out its texture against the dark basalt. Overcast days are ideal since Iceland's flat, diffused light reduces harsh shadows and makes the greens and grays pop. You can shoot from the canyon rim or carefully work your way closer to the water's edge for a lower, more dramatic perspective. The location is relatively remote, so check road conditions before visiting, especially outside of summer. (Varmahlíð, Iceland)
