Rideau Hall
Rideau Hall is the official residence of Canada's Governor General, a grand 19th-century estate with stone architecture, manicured gardens, tree-lined pathways, and sweeping lawns that give you plenty of compositional variety. The ornate gatehouse entrance on Sussex Drive makes a strong architectural shot on its own, while the main residence photographs well from the front grounds with its formal symmetry and heritage stone facade. The gardens are particularly rewarding in spring and summer when flowerbeds are in full bloom, and the tall mature trees create natural framing and dappled light throughout the property. Overcast days work especially well here, softening shadows on the stone surfaces and keeping the greens saturated. A 24-70mm lens covers most situations comfortably.
