About Salzberg Kapelle
Out in the farmland between the villages of Anwalting and Gebenhofen the Salzbergkapelle sits all alone on a low hilltop. This small field chapel was originally built in 1694 and dedicated to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows. The chapel is quite eye catching with its pop red tiles contrasting against the plain white building with its small bell tower. Shooting it as a lone building in open ground adds an amazing feeling of solitude to your composition. A low angle from the pathway or farm roads puts the chapel against a rich blue sky. Early and late light suits the pale walls and really highlights the pop of red on the roof. Fog and frost are also worth making the drive out in winter. A statue of Mary stands outside on a plinth, which makes a tighter subject if the light goes flat while you are shooting. Inside, an altar is painted straight onto the wall at the far end, along with ceiling paintings from the 1700s. The figures in the wall niches are all 3D printed replicas since the originals have been moved to the church in Anwalting after a theft. There is no charge, although the inside is not always open. Since it is wide open farmland its a fun spot to experiment with drone photography. (Affing, Bavaria, Germany)
