Segla is a dramatic rocky peak on Senja island, rising sharply above the fjord with near-vertical cliffs that make it one of the most striking summits in northern Norway. The classic composition here is from the peak itself, looking down over the tiny village of Fjordgård nestled at the water's edge, with the surrounding fjords and jagged ridgelines stretching in every direction. A wide angle lens handles the sweeping 360-degree panorama well, while a short telephoto lets you compress the layers of mountains and water below. The hike to the top takes roughly two hours and involves some steep, uneven terrain, so sturdy footwear is essential. In summer, the midnight sun bathes the peak in warm golden light well past midnight, which is the prime window to shoot. In winter, clear days offer a chance at snow-covered ridges and northern lights after dark. (Fjordgård, Troms, Norway)
