The Sister Churches of Granavollen are two medieval stone churches (St. Mary’s and St. Nicholas’) built next to each other in the 12th century in the village of Gran. Surrounded by open fields and rolling hills, the churches offer a peaceful rural setting with strong visual symmetry and historic character. Their simple Romanesque architecture, stone walls, and tall towers make them excellent subjects for wide landscape shots or closer architectural details. The site is especially photogenic in soft morning or evening light, and in winter when snow adds contrast. Easily accessible by car with nearby parking, the churches are a quiet and rewarding stop for anyone interested in photographing Norway’s early history. (Gran, Innlandet, Norway)
