Skerries Mills

Skerries Mills is a rare working heritage site on the north Dublin coast, home to two windmills, including a five-sailed mill that is unique in Ireland, alongside a watermill, all set against open sky and green countryside. The tall stone towers photograph beautifully with a wide angle lens that lets you emphasize the dramatic sweep of the sails against the sky, and shooting low from ground level exaggerates the height of the structures. Try positioning the five-sailed mill so the sails fan across the frame, or use the watermill's stone arch and millrace as foreground interest. Golden hour light works especially well here, raking across the textured stonework and giving the sails a warm glow.
