Soldiers' and Sailors' Arch
Standing at the northern entrance to Prospect Park, this massive Neoclassical triumphal arch is one of Brooklyn's most striking landmarks, offering strong geometric lines and rich sculptural detail that reward close attention. Shoot from a low angle looking straight up at the bronze chariot and figures crowning the arch to emphasize its scale, or step back along Flatbush Avenue to use the arch as a frame for the park beyond. The arch faces roughly east, so morning light catches the relief sculptures well, while overcast days are ideal for pulling out the carved stone detail without harsh shadows. A 24-70mm lens covers most compositions, though a wide angle helps when shooting close. The plaza's circular layout gives you multiple vantage points, and the central pedestrian island lets you position yourself on axis with the arch for symmetrical compositions.
