The Church of St. Francis of Assisi sits on Křížovnické náměstí (Crusaders Square) watching over the Charles Bridge and Vltava River on the edge Old Town. Its soaring green copper dome stands out in the Prague skyline, visible from elevated viewpoints all across the Old Town. The church was built between 1679 and 1688 and belongs to the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. The church's peaceful exterior hides a breathtaking interior that is just begging to be photographed. The dome ceiling is covered with a fresco of the Last Judgement by Václav Vavřinec Reiner, painted in 1723. The walls are lined with coloured marble and the main altar has life size statues in all of its surrounding niches. The church houses Prague's second oldest functioning organ, dating back to 1702 and possibly played by both Mozart and Dvořák. Regular organ concerts run from April to November, usually in the late afternoon, and attending one is the easiest way to guarantee interior access and time to photograph. Outside of concerts the church is only open to sightseers (and photographers) right before a Mass. You will have to check the church's hours. There is an admission fee to attend the concerts and tickets can be bought online before hand. (Prague, Czech Republic)
